What is PEMF?
PEMF Frequently Asked Questions.
Here’s you’ll find everything you need to know about PEMF Therapy in one place;
- What is PEMF?
- How does PEMF work?
- Which system PEMF system should you buy.
CAN YOU FEEL PEMF?
It is not possible to ‘feel’ PEMF therapy directly as your skin receptors are not sensitive enough to detect the PEMF signal. However, the receptors on your cells do detect this signal and amplify it significantly. Research show up to 7 million times! This is why low frequency and intensity PEMF therapy, such as used by the iMRS system, can be so effective.WHAT DOES PEMF FEEL LIKE?
Some people report that they do not directly ‘feel’ PEMF therapy when it is occurring, but they then notice the benefits afterwards, such as reduced pain levels, increased energy, or better sleep. Others feel the effects of PEMF therapy on their body, such as warmth in tight muscles, tingling in old injury sites, or a sense of all over relaxation as the tension in their muscles releases.WHAT ARE PEMF DEVICES
PEMF therapy devices deliver a pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) to the cells in the body. This can improve cell energy and lead to profound health benefits. There are many PEMF devices available today, which range from very low frequency and intensity PEMF models, to very high powered systems. We have researched and tested a great many of these systems and the iMRS system is our favourite. If you believe in working with your body to help it heal, we think you will like the iMRS too.WHAT DOES PEMF HELP?
There are many benefits to using PEMF therapy. These include pain relief, better sleep, reduced inflammation, faster healing, more energy and less stress to name a few. PEMF can also play a supportive role in a number of health conditions such as arthritis, ms, fibromyalgia and Parkinson’s.WHAT CAN PEMF TREAT?
Using PEMF therapy can lead to many benefits. These include pain relief, reduced inflammation, faster healing, and greater, amongst many others. PEMF can also play a supportive role in a number of health conditions such as arthritis, ms, fibromyalgia and Parkinson’s.HOW DOES PEMF WORK?
Cells are the building blocks of life. The health of every one of us is governed by the health of our cells. There is no escaping this. Our cells are constantly subjected to stress, be it physical, emotional or energetic, pushing them towards a state of dysfunction and ultimately disease. Keeping the trillions of cells within our body in a healthy state is not a passive process and requires an active intervention. PEMF therapy can do just this and when delivered at the right frequency and intensity, can play a hugely significant role in keeping our cells healthy. When electromagnetic impulses of the appropriate frequency are applied this can result in a process called cellular resonance, with vibration of the cell occurring at maximum amplitude. When this occurs, the resulting stimulation of the cell’s membrane receptors activates a variety of functions within the cell, accounting for the widespread benefits of PEMF therapy. There is a ‘biological window’ of very low level electromagnetic frequency and intensity values which produce this effect within the cell. It is perhaps not surprising that these values are therefore replicated in the technology of the most effective PEMF systems available for home use. Outside of these values, not only are the beneficial effects downgraded, they can actually become harmful. This is most easily demonstrated today in our modern electronic environment, where we are seeing mounting evidence of the negative health effects of mobile phones, smart meters and WiFi.IS PEMF EFFECTIVE?
There has been a significant amount of research carried out into the effectiveness of PEMF therapy. There are over three thousand published research papers and many double blind randomised controlled trials which highlight the positive effects of PEMF therapy across all frequency and intensity ranges, and for various diseases. Research also shows that the applied frequency, intensity and type of waveform are all crucial when it comes to an effective response. This is why PEMF therapy is used medically over a large range of intensity and frequency levels. There has been very interesting low level PEMF research published, which has demonstrated a positive response in a number of health conditions including osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, ms, and Parkinson’s disease in particular.WHICH PEMF DEVICE IS BEST?
There are a number of PEMF devices available today. To decide which device is best for your needs, you first need to consider what you want to achieve from PEMF therapy. If you believe that the body is capable of healing itself and wish to work with your body for lasting, long term benefits, you should give serious consideration to low level PEMF devices. We have tested the vast majority of these systems and recommend the iMRS system as, in our opinion, it provides the best all round PEMF therapy offering. If you are looking to work against your body and override its natural processes in order to help with high level pain management or a specific disease process, you may want to consider higher level PEMF therapy systems.WHY USE PEMF?
The electronic environment around us has drastically changed in the last 20 years. The abundance of mobile phones, ‘connected’ devices, smart meters and now the introduction of 5G, are all placing significant additional stress on our bodies. As a result, we sleep poorly, lack energy and productivity, And it is no surprise that chronic health conditions are on the rise. PEMF therapy can help improve cell energy, so our bodies can function more efficiently and is equipped to cope with the additional stress. When the cells in our body have more energy, we feel more healthy. We sleep better, control our stress more effectively, have less pain, and more energy. To do more of the things we want to do.WHY ARE PEMF MACHINES SO EXPENSIVE?
PEMF devices vary greatly in cost from a few hundred pounds, up to in excess of twenty thousand. They also vary greatly in quality, design and application. Some are designed for home use, like our chosen system, the iMRS. Others are intended for practitioner use only. When we test PEMF devices, we are particularly interested in value for money. What do you get? Is it effective? Is it reliable and backed by a full manufacturer’s warranty? The list goes on. When we consider these factors, the iMRS system stands out from the PEMF crowd. It is a fully upgradeable and ‘intelligent’ PEMF system, with many carefully designed features to keep it at the top of the tree.
The iMRS is also a class 2a certified medical product, which sets it apart from many other devices on the market. To achieve this status, a significant amount of continued investment is required by the manufacturer into research, product design, testing, materials used, and quality control. It also means we can talk about the health benefits that the iMRS delivers, as opposed to just general wellness benefits, which is the case for PEMF devices which are not medically certified. PEMF therapy is an investment in your health for many years, and it is best seen as that; after all it is hard to put a value on your long term health.
ARE PEMF DEVICES SAFE?
Low level PEMF devices such as the iMRS system are perfectly safe to use and designed for long term, proactive use, by individuals of all ages. There are a few contraindications to the use of low level PEMF therapy to be aware of and you should NOT use the iMRS system if any of the following applies to you:- During pregnancy
- If you have a pacemaker, or any other electrical device fitted
- Following organ transplant
- Epilepsy
- Tumour illnesses
- Serious fungal or bacterial infection
- Persistent high fever
- Serious cardiac arrhythmia

CAN PEMF HELP WITH SLEEP?
According to research, PEMF therapy can improve sleep by stimulating the hypothalamus, which controls circadian and sleep rhythms. Because of this, PEMF therapy can help increase energy in the morning for the day ahead, and then help the body to relax, when it’s time for sleep. It can also help to increase slow wave sleep activity, which is the most restorative part of deep sleep. Additional PEMF therapy benefits that can also enhance quality of sleep include reduced muscle tension, improvements in circulation, and decreased stress levels.CAN PEMF HELP WITH INFLAMMATION?
A number of studies have shown an anti-inflammatory effect within the body when PEMF therapy is applied following trauma, surgical procedures or injury. There are several reasons for this including a reduction in pain and inflammatory mediators, plus improved immune cell function and enhanced microcirculation. This results in a more efficient nutrient/waste exchange within the cell and faster tissue healing and recovery.CAN PEMF HELP MS?
Research has demonstrated exciting results when very low level PEMF therapy is used to help address the symptoms of multiple sclerosis. These improvements have been documented in a variety of areas, including fatigue, sleep, and movement. Further benefits have been recorded with vision, bladder function, speech problems, and mood. The extensive work of R. Sandyk in this field has identified a PEMF frequency of 5hz and an intensity in the picoTesla range as being the most effective signal parameters to use.CAN PEMF HELP WITH CANCER?
PEMF therapy has the potential to play a supportive role in the management of cancer related conditions. It should always be used with the consent of the specialist overseeing the management of the condition and should not be used as a replacement for any established medical protocol that is in place.CAN PEMF HELP WITH WEIGHT LOSS?
There are a number of possible ways that PEMF therapy can help with weight loss. PEMF therapy can help improve energy levels, reduce pain and aid with recovery from activity, all of which can help with better tolerance of exercise for weight loss. PEMF therapy can also help improve sleep quality, which is plays a crucial role towards the maintenance of a healthy weight. At a localised level, PEMF therapy can help improve microcirculation, which can enhance blood flow into fatty areas within the body, which can help improve the body’s metabolism of fats.HOW DOES PEMF INCREASE CIRCULATION?
Research has shown that PEMF therapy can both improve blood flow and promote vasodilatation of blood capillaries, which results in an increase in capillary size. Improvements in blood flow result from a change in the charge of blood cells, which promotes separation between the cells, improved nutrient/waste exchange and a reduction in areas of red blood cell clumping which can commonly occur and is known as the Rouleaux effect. Improved microcirculation to tissues is one of the most commonly observed benefits of PEMF therapy, which has the potential to bring with it many other consequential health benefits. How does PEMF reduce pain?PEMF therapy has been repeatedly shown to stimulate the production of the body’s own natural painkiller, known as endorphins. And it is remarkably effective, shown to be as strong as 10mg of Morphine! PEMF therapy can also help improve pain levels by promoting increased tissue repair, reducing inflammation and relaxing associated muscular tension. PEMF therapy can have both body-wide and localised effects on pain levels within the body. It can also help to significantly improve sleep quality, which has been shown to be an essential component of any successful pain relief strategy. Can PEMF help with Parkinson’s Disease.
Dr Reuven Sandyk has carried out a great deal of interesting research using very low level PEMF therapy relating to neurodegenerative conditions, and in particular, Parkinson’s disease. He discovered that very low intensity fields, in the picoTesla range, had the greatest effect. One such successful study combined picoTesla field intensity with a PEMF frequency of 7Hz, which was shown to activate dopamine receptors and enhance sense of smell in a group of patients diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Similar effects were observed with increased yawning and stretching behaviours when patients with Parkinson’s disease were exposed to picoTesla intensity PEMF therapy, again indicating increased dopamine release as a beneficial effect of the PEMF therapy.
